We tracked prices across 18 different grocery chains in Toronto. The data reveals massive differences for identical products. Some items cost more than double depending on where you shop.

Produce and Pantry Staples
Vegetables and dry goods showed some of the widest gaps. Tomatoes On The Vine cost $0.87 at Giant (sale) versus $2.99 at Metro (sale). That is 244% more for the exact same product.
Potatoes followed a similar pattern. Russet potatoes were $1.47 at Giant (sale) compared to $5 at Your Independent Grocer (sale). This represents a 240% price increase.
Canned goods also varied significantly. Canned Tomatoes cost $1.97 at Walmart Supercentre (sale, regular $2.88) but $5 at Marché Adonis (sale).
