Out of 169 products sold at multiple chains in Vancouver, no single chain wins on everything. Safeway and City Market tie for the lead with 31 lowest-price wins each, and Real Canadian Superstore is close behind with 30.

We tracked 12 chains to find where your dollar goes furthest. The gaps between stores can be massive for identical items. Below are the biggest differences we found in our June 12, 2026 data.

Dairy and Produce Swings
Dairy prices show some of the widest gaps. 0% Island Farms Milk costs $1.48 at Walmart Supercentre (sale, regular $2.06) but $4.99 at Thrifty Foods. That is 237% more at Thrifty Foods for the exact same product.
Yogurt prices also vary wildly. Olympic Krema Yogurt 8x100g is $4.49 at Thrifty Foods (sale) compared to $11.47 at Walmart Supercentre (sale, regular $14.18). Walmart is still 155% more expensive even on sale.
Bottom Line
Safeway, City Market, and Real Canadian Superstore lead the lowest-price counts in our Vancouver survey, but no chain is cheapest on everything. Many of the lowest prices listed above, including milk and cereal at Walmart Supercentre, are temporary sale prices. Always check the regular price before assuming a store is cheaper overall.
